For our class, we were tasked with creating a physical game design board with information and components outlining the premise of our video game and the design choices that lead to its creation. Throughout the board are informative excerpts with visual aid describing art direction, character design, level design, project timelines, system component requirements, game universe lore, and gameplay mechanics.
Here are a few written pieces that were used for the board, of which specifically outline a list of in-game assets and components needed to achieve the criteria we’ve set for ourselves, and an optimistic yet realistic project timeline for completing each task of the project in order to complete the game by the due date of the 2nd of October.
Needed Game System Components
A triggerable state machine for switching between the two dimensions. It will need to somehow influence the in-game textures, lighting, and various level progression based obstacles.
A stabilized 3D render that can handle and display the in-game assets.
A UI system that displays game objective progression.
Fully tested and reliable collision physics with the map.
Synced and well-leveled sound effects for curtain actions.
A coded system that will trace resource distribution.
A high scoreboard and timer scoreboard view-able for each game save.
A working menu screen with various options.
